Yup No doubt about it. Spring is here. Windows all over the house have been thrown open for two days in a row and I can hear the frogs singing in the distance. When I gave a friend a ride to a nearby trailhead yesterday I discovered another reason to be grateful that we don’t live right next to the water. The noise was just incredible. After about a minute of trying to hold a conversation at normal speaking volume with my friend, I was ready to classify this concert of nature as a full blown cacophony.
People who say they want to go out to the peace and quiet of nature have obviously never been there in the spring. As beautiful as it was, the decibel level drove me back in very short order to the quiet shelter of my home and one whiney cat. Ahh, tranquility.

My friend True scored a nationally broadcast spot on NPR for St. Patrick’s Day. Woot! Go have a listen (his bit starts at 5:43 if you’re pressed for time). The Tain Bo Cuilagne (that last one is pronounced Coo) is such an epic Irish tale; it’s a shame they only had time for him tell such a tiny piece of it. Of course, being of Welsh stock myself, I prefer The Mabinogion and most particularly the section about the Lady of the Fountain, but they’re both amazing tales.
True, if you have the clip, send it over and I’ll get it posted to your site as well.

Hi, this is Mym’s voice mail. Don’t bother leaving a message; he won’t check it. He hasn’t bothered to set up my mailbox since he first picked me up in 2005. In fact, the best way to reach him is usually to call his secretary wife. This worked out particularly well during the past several months while I was lost. In his truck. His errand girl wife had only just connected a replacement phone for him when I was finally found while searching for an umbrella. Not that she’s bitter, because she totally isn’t. She’s just happy to see me again and glad that Mym has recovered all of the very important phone numbers he was so upset about not having stored anywhere else. Mym’s wife rocks harder than getting Mym to check his email.
Beep.
